Kudzanai-Violet Hwami
Zimbabwe, b. 1993
Hwami brings together photographs, personal memories and imagined spaces in paintings that explore identity and belonging. Her layered compositions move between private experience and wider cultural references, allowing the figure to feel familiar while its surrounding story remains open. She was one of four artists representing Zimbabwe at the 2019 Venice Biennale. Her work offers a distinctive perspective on how images, migration and memory shape our sense of self.
